Information and its use
- Information collected
- We collect the contact and delivery details you enter, account details, basket and order information, payment information submitted at checkout, and enquiries or support messages. Our hosting and security services process technical request information. With Analytics consent, we record searches, result counts and book clicks to improve search.
- Purposes
- We use information to provide your account and basket, process and fulfil orders, answer enquiries, handle cancellations and returns, keep business records, and protect the website against misuse. Optional search analytics help us improve catalogue search.
- Legal bases
- We process information necessary to take steps you request before a purchase and perform our contract with you; meet legal accounting and consumer obligations; and pursue our legitimate interests in customer support, website security and preventing misuse. We use consent for optional analytics and advertising. You may withdraw that consent through Manage Cookies.
- Required information
- Fields marked as required are needed to handle the order, account or enquiry you submit. Without the necessary contact, delivery or payment information, we may be unable to fulfil an order. Optional fields and optional analytics or advertising consent are not required to browse or buy.
When using an order or enquiry form, check the information you provide and only include details relevant to your request.
Sharing, retention and cookies
- Recipients
- Information is accessible to authorised staff and the suppliers needed to operate the service: Spaceship for hosting and Spacemail, Cloudflare for website security and content delivery, Ideal Postcodes when you use address lookup, and Royal Mail for delivery. We also disclose information where required by law or necessary to handle a legal claim.
- Overseas transfers
- Our hosting, email and website-security providers may process information outside the UK, including in the United States. Their data-processing terms describe the applicable transfer safeguards, including standard contractual clauses and the UK addendum where applicable. Contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data.
- Retention
- We keep records for as long as needed to complete orders and returns, resolve enquiries or disputes, maintain your account, and meet accounting or other legal requirements. The applicable purpose and any outstanding legal obligation determine when a record is no longer needed for retention. Browser-storage periods and controls are explained in our Cookie Policy.
- Advertising
- Google advertising and analytics tags are not currently configured on this site. Optional first-party search analytics operate only with Analytics consent. If Google advertising is enabled, we will use hashed contact details and purchase information with Google to measure advertising and create personalised advertising audiences only where you consent to Advertisement cookies. You can withdraw this consent at any time through Manage Cookies.
- Automated decisions
- We do not use solely automated decisions that produce legal or similarly significant effects on you. Search ordering and suggestions help you find books; they do not decide your legal rights. Staff handle enquiries, complaints and return decisions.
Read our Cookie Policy for browser storage and preference controls.
Your choices
You may request access, correction, deletion, restriction or portability where applicable. You may object to direct marketing and, where applicable, processing based on legitimate interests. You may withdraw consent at any time.
Contact us to exercise these rights. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office.
